Argentine Forget-Me-Not

Iberodes linifolia syn. Omphalodes linifolia

Features

  • Foliage & Filler
  • Medium producer
  • Pollinator-friendly

Description

This darling little plant is a must-grow for flower arranging, especially wedding work. While plants are on the shorter side, each one produces at least a dozen branching stems that are perfect for adding texture to posies and centerpieces. Tiny, white flowers open up the stem and leave behind tiny, gray-green seedpods that sparkle when touched by the breeze. Bees love them, too.

Details

Plant type: hardy annual
Height: 12 to 18 in
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 90 to 100 days
Plant spacing: 9 to 12 in
Pinch: not necessary

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes

Start seed indoors in trays 4 to 6 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. They can also be direct-seeded.

Harvesting/Vase Life

Harvest when one-quarter of the flowers on a stem are open. It’s especially wilt prone, so be sure to cut during the coolest part of the day. Immediately after harvest, dip the bottom few inches of the stems in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds, or use Quick Dip, then place into cool water. Expect a vase life of 5 to 7 days.
