In mild areas, seed can be sown directly into the garden in the fall. Everywhere else, direct-seed into the garden 6 weeks before last frost. Seed can be tricky to start indoors, so pop seeds into the freezer for 10 to 14 days before sowing to speed up germination. Don’t pinch plants.
