Lilac ‘Madame Lemoine’

Syringa vulgaris

Features

  • Fragrant

Description

The greenish-cream buds of this variety open to small, tightly packed clusters of very fragrant double, white flowers. The flowers have an almost shredded appearance, like tiny pieces of tissue or frayed silk ribbon.

Details

Height: 8 to 10 ft
Bloom time: late
Site: full sun

Harvesting/Vase Life

Harvest when one-half to three-quarters of the flowers on the bloom cluster are open and immediately remove most or all of the leaves. Using heavy clippers, recut the stem ends, slice vertically up the stem 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm), and twist backward. Plunge the cut stems immediately into cool water. You can also use Quick Dip and then place stems into water with hydrator. Expect a vase life of 5 to 6 days.
