A close up of Chrysanthemum Heather James

Chrysanthemum ‘Heather James’

Description

I have been growing this variety for years and it continues to be one of my favorites. Ultra-productive, towering plants produce sprays of 3 to 5 perfectly formed terracotta blooms. Peachy-orange petal backs give it a two-toned effect. Beautiful combined with crabapples and other fall ingredients.

Harvesting/Vase Life

Harvest individual stems when the flowers are one-half to two-thirds open. For spray varieties, harvest when one-quarter of the flowers on a stem have opened. Chrysanthemums are notorious for making their water murky. To combat this and extend their vase life, add a few drops of bleach to the water. Expect a vase life of more than 2 weeks with floral preservative.
