A close up of Chrysanthemum River City

Chrysanthemum ‘River City’

Description

This is one of the most beautiful varieties I’ve ever grown and one of my all-time favorites. The tall plants have an upright growth habit and chocolate-brown stems topped with the most beautiful salmon buds that open to large, peachy-pink flowers with incurved petals, glowing golden centers, and an iridescent wash. It is a flower arranger’s dream and is great for both straight bunches and bouquets.

Harvesting/Vase Life

Harvest individual stems when the flowers are one-half to two-thirds open. For spray varieties, harvest when one-quarter of the flowers on a stem have opened. Chrysanthemums are notorious for making their water murky. To combat this and extend their vase life, add a few drops of bleach to the water. Expect a vase life of more than 2 weeks with floral preservative.
