Sunflower ‘Sunrich Gold’

Helianthus annuus

Features

  • Easy to grow
  • Heat-loving
  • One-hit wonder

Description

One of our most abundantly grown single-stemmed varieties, this winner flowers just 60 to 70 days from sowing. While the entire Sunrich series is worth cultivating, I particularly love the gold variety, with its clear yellow petals and pretty greenish-yellow center.

Details

Plant type: annual
Height: 48 to 60 in
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 60 to 70 days
Plant spacing: 4 to 6 in
Pinch: do not pinch

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes

Sunflowers can be direct-seeded into the garden after all danger of frost has passed or started indoors in trays and transplanted out after 2 to 3 weeks.

Harvesting/Vase Life

Harvest as soon as the first petals on a bloom start to lift off the central disk. Strip three-quarters of the leaves from the stem. Expect a vase life of 7 to 10 days.
